My wife is Lee-Anne, and my sister is Leanne. In most of my posts "Lee" is probably Leanne, not Lee-Anne; unless I specifically refer to Lee-Anne, possibly as "Lee" too, but then the context of the sentence should obviate whether I refer to "Lee" as in Lee-Anne, or Leanne.

My Kidney - what's at steak?
History in brief:
In 1985 I was diagnosed with an auto-immune condition called IGA nephritis. The gradual degeneration of the kidneys as a result, led to renal failure in 1999 followed by 9 months of haemodialysis. A kidney transplant followed in April 2000 whereby I received a kidney from my sister Joanne.
Nine good, healthy and fulfilled years followed. While the reccurence of IGA was always a pre-existing possiblity, the actual eventuality of such was never considered...
In July 2009 the transplanted kidney succumbed to IGA again, has rapidly degenerated, and I have been re-diagnosed with end-stage renal failure. I began CAPD (dialysis) in August while the focal goal is to have another transplant...hopefully soon. My sister, Leanne (twin to Joanne, my 1st donor) is currently being tested.
I was admitted as a State patient in the early years, to Addington in Durban. In more recent years the renal unit moved to Albert Luthuli General Hospital where I remained their loyal subject until December 2009.
2010 ushered in a new era in my healthcare as I made a move from the State into the private sector. Latest news is that Leanne cannot actually be my next donor so we are currently actioning Plan B...we just dont know exactly what Plan B is though!
